PacWest Conference Weekly Awards (Apr. 23)
IRVINE, Calif. -- More impressive pitching by
Brooke Larsen (19-3) in ART U Softball's four-game series with Hawaii Pacific led her to yet another PacWest Freshman of the Week (her eighth weekly honor from the conference this season). The award was based on games played Apr. 16-22.
The series began with Larsen nearly completing the program's first perfect game against the Sharks on
Apr. 21. She would retire the first 20 batters she faced before allowing one hit and securing the shutout soon after. On
Apr. 22, the Graphic Design major allowed only two earned runs, one walk, and struck out eight Sharks en route to another victory. In addition to her 1.00 earned run average and 13 strikeouts in 14.0 innings of work as a pitcher, Larsen the hitter batted .250 (3-for-12) with one run batted in and one run scored.
Larsen currently leads the PacWest in wins (19), shutouts (9), complete games (18), and innings pitched (153.0). She is also second in strikeouts (183) and fourth in ERA (1.02). The Graphic Design major opens this week still ranked second in the country in shutouts, seventh in strikeouts and 10th in wins. As a hitter, Larsen is tied for second in the PacWest in doubles with 13 on the year.
This is the eighth PacWest weekly honor Larsen has collected this season after she earned one Player of the Week selection on
Mar. 26 and was Freshman of the Week six times previously (
Feb. 5,
Feb. 12,
Feb. 19,
Mar. 19,
Apr. 2,
Apr. 9).
