Brooke Larsen Dealt PacWest Freshman of the Week

PacWest Conference Weekly Awards (Feb. 5)

IRVINE, Calif. – After dazzling with a shutout and 19 strikeouts in the first 17.0 innings of her collegiate career, pitcher Brooke Larsen (1-1) was named Pacific West Conference Freshman of the Week. The award was based on games played Jan. 29 - Feb. 4.

Larsen's first collegiate start came against No. 21 Chico State on Feb. 2 where she went a full 7.0 innings, surrendering just one earned run on five hits with no walks and seven strikeouts. In a relief appearance against UC San Diego on Feb. 3, the Graphic Design major allowed two runs on three hits in 3.0 innings, but still struck out three. Taking on yet another high-powered offense in Central Washington on Feb. 4, the Sacramento, Calif. native signed off on a complete game shutout with just five hits, no walks, and nine more strikeouts. The Wildcats had scored nine runs or more in each of their four games prior to meeting Larsen.

Five games into the season among starters with at least 10.0 innings pitched, Larsen is ranked first in the PacWest in complete games (2) and second in both earned run average (1.24) and strikeouts (19).

This is the first PacWest weekly honor of Larsen's career.
