PacWest Conference Weekly Awards (Apr. 2)
IRVINE, Calif. -- Following up a historic week in which she earned
Tournament of Champions Most Valuable Player,
PacWest Player of the Week, and became the first Urban Knight ever to earn
Louisville Slugger/NFCA D2 National Pitcher of the Week,
Brooke Larsen (15-3) was once again honored as the PacWest Freshman of the Week. The award was based on games played Mar. 26 - Apr. 1.
Over the course of ART U's 3-1 week, Larsen offered a 1.75 earned run average with one win, one shutout, one complete game, one save, and 14 strikeouts in 12.0 innings of work with opponents hitting just .136 against her. The Sacramento, Calif. native began the week by striking out six Chaminade Silverswords en route to a two-hit shutout on
Mar. 27. She would also secure her second collegiate save in the second game that day, tossing a scoreless seventh inning with one strikeout. Larsen then pushed her stretch of scoreless innings to 38.1 on
Mar. 28 with another seven strikeouts despite taking just her third loss of the season. Additionally, Larsen hit .454 (5-for-11) with two runs batted in, three doubles, and one run scored across the four games. The run she scored happened to be the winning run in the second game of the series with the Silverswords.
Larsen currently leads the PacWest in wins (15), complete games (14), shutouts (7), and innings pitched (124.0). She is also second in strikeouts (151) and ERA (1.07). The Graphic Design major opens this week ranked second in the country in shutouts and among the country's top 10 in both wins and strikeouts.
This is the sixth PacWest weekly honor Larsen has collected this season after she captured the aforementioned Player of the Week selection on
Mar. 26 and was Freshman of the Week four times previously (
Feb. 5,
Feb. 12,
Feb. 19,
Mar. 19).
