KNIGHT WATCH
Two games are what separate the eighth seed Urban Knights from the sixth seed Vulcans of UH Hilo in the Pacific West conference standings. In the first game of a two-game Southern California trip, junior guards
Kai Tease and
Stefan Milivojevic tied for a game-high in points with 20 apiece, with Tease setting his season-best point total on the strength of a season-high 5-for-8 shooting from downtown. Notching his second double-double of the season was junior forward
Josh Hill, who snagged 11 rebounds to go along with his 10 points. Despite those efforts,
it was Biola who walked away victorious, 75-67. Hill followed up his previous performance with yet another double-double against Point Loma, his second straight and third of the season, by pouring in a season-high and game-high 19 points with 11 rebounds. In the end, it was the
Sea Lions that earned the victory, 81-62. Also making it into double-figures against PLNU were Milivojevic (13), Tease (10), and junior guard
Joshua Bagley (10).Â
Â
Milivojevic averaged 16.5 points in the two contests while Hill was just behind him with an average of 14.5 points. On the
PacWest leaderboard, Milivojevic remains in fifth in scoring with an average of 16.7 points per game and ranks fourth in field goal percentage (56.6 percent). In the 3-point category, the 51.8 percent 3-point field goal percentage for Milivojevic remains first, and he is second in average 3-point field goals per game with 2.8. Nationally, the 51.8 percent from deep has Milivojevic third in
all of NCAA Division II. Hill has climbed to 10th in rebounds in the PacWest, averaging six per game, while Bagley is seventh in the conference in assists by averaging 3.4 per game.Â
Â
CHASING THE RECORD BOOKS
It was a record-setting day the last time out for Milivojevic against Point Loma, as he became the ART U career 3-point field goal leader with 110 in his career after going 3-for-6 from beyond the arc. He passed
Cobe Williams' (2015-19)
previous record of 108 in his 67th
career game, 34 games less than Williams. Milivojevic also sits atop the career 3-point field goal percentage list for the Urban Knights at 45.3 percent, with the next closest on the list at 37.8 percent (Kendall Brown, 2016-18). On the career scoring list, Milivojevic finds himself in seventh with 651 career points, only 10 behind sixth-place
Aaron Anderson (2011-15). In single-season marks, Milivojevic's 44 3-pointers is tied for sixth with
Ameer Shamsud-din (2012-13 season), and one behind fifth place Weleh Dennis (2008-09 season).Â
PENGUIN SLIDE
The Penguins slide into the matchup having lost four of their last five, sitting in 11th
in the PacWest. Dominican was swept on their most recent trip to Hawai'i, stumbling in close contests to UH Hilo (68-64) and HPU (66-65) before losing by 20 to Chaminade, 91-71. Offensively, the Penguins are ninth in the conference averaging 68.7 points per game, and having a scoring margin of -8.6, the second-lowest in the PacWest. Leading the way is Jordan Williams, averaging 14.3 points per game along with 2.3 assists per game, while Romeo Mays is the top rebounder with 5.4 per game. The Penguins won the first matchup of the season with the Urban Knights 74-60 on Dec. 19, and they lead the all-time matchup 15-6.Â
Â
SWIMMING WITH SHARKS
Much like ART U, the Sharks of Hawai'i Pacific are sitting just outside the top six spots in the PacWest, one spot ahead of the Urban Knights in seventh place. The Sharks are 3-2 in their past five games, starting the 2020 calendar year with a win over Biola, 73-68, but then dropping a narrow loss to Fresno Pacific, 69-68. Following a 64-50 loss to Point Loma, HPU has won each of the last two games against Bay Area pod members Notre Dame de Namur, 71-64, and Dominican, 66-65. HPU has the 10thÂ
best scoring offense in the PacWest but also has the best defense, allowing an average of 69.3 points per game. Ronald Blain is the top scorer and rebounder for the Sharks at 14.7 points per game and 6.2 rebounds per game, and is tough on defense with 21 steals. These two teams will play twice in 10 days, and HPU leads the all-time matchup, 13-4.Â
LOOKING AHEAD
A trip to Hawai'i is on deck for the Urban Knights, as they will face all three schools on the islands starting with Chaminade on Jan. 27, followed by HPU on Jan. 29, and finishing with UH Hilo on Jan. 31.Â
