No. 7 Academy of Art versus Holy Names Final Results
OAKLAND, Calif. – With three-consecutive wins and following an 8-1 victory over Dominican, No. 7 Academy of Art women's tennis entered Sunday's contest with Holy Names with a full head of steam. Therefore, it was no surprise that their momentum carried them to their fourth-straight win, a perfect, 9-0 sweep over the Hawks.
In both the second and third doubles positions, the Urban Knights were flawless as they did not concede a single game (8-0 in each). No. 6-ranked twins
Alma Thell-Lenntorp and
Klara Thell-Lenntorp also won their match up top by the score of 8-4.
ART U was nearly invincible in singles as well, taking all six matches in straight sets. There were four Urban Knights who recorded a set without allowing a single game to be won by their opponent, including: junior
Monika Stanikova (second set), sophomore Mariacistina Andrisani (first set), A. Thell-Lenntorp (second set), and junior
Paula Alcantara (second set). In fact, Holy Names only averaged a miniscule, 1.41 games per set against the Urban Knights.
Now 4-1 overall, ART U will next head to Stanislaus on February 24 to take on the Warriors for the second time this season. The
last time that the two teams faced off, Academy of Art produced the same score that they put forward on Sunday afternoon against HNU: a 9-0 sweep.
"We had a good team effort today," said head coach
Clarisse Baca. "All of the players stayed very focused throughout the match."
