ART U Honors Seniors After Close 4-3 Match Against STAN

LIVERMORE, Calif. – In Academy of Art tennis' regular season-ending match against the Warriors, the Urban Knights saw early success from the doubles courts and quick singles action, but Stanislaus State found late momentum to secure a close and competitive 4-3 win.

After facing an early deficit on Court 3, sophomore Georgiana Parr and freshman Stefani Georgieva switched the momentum around on Court 2 to tie doubles up at 1-1 after taking down Alyssa Tay and Nicollet Alexander with a 6-2 score. Wrapping doubles up on Court 1, the Urban Knights created a 1-0 lead on the day with sophomore Amelija Supulniece and sophomore Estelle Najean defeating Emma Yu and Annabelle Mulick 6-4.

In singles action, the Warriors claimed the first match by walkover on Court 6, but Supulniece made quick work on Court 1 to regain the lead for ART U, swiftly creating a 6-0, 6-1 triumph for herself against Tay. While STAN went on to take the next three and clinch the match, the Knights fought hard with each of them containing a set of three games won or more, as two battled into the third set as well. Finishing up her match on Court 2, Najean competed until the very end taking the match as long as it could go, and ultimately came out with a feisty 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 11-9 victory.

Tennis TeamHonoring their seniors after the match, ART U held a Senior Day ceremony highlighting the careers of senior Paulina Alvarez and graduate student Maria Vittoria Casucci, granting well wishes and thanks for all they've done for the program.

Following the match, Academy of Art moves to 5-9 overall while Stanislaus State improves to 11-6. The Urban Knights will next enter the Pacific West Conference Tournament, starting on Apr. 16.
