Women's Tennis Open Tourney With Tough Match Against HPU

SURPRISE, Ariz. – In the first round of the Pacific West Conference Tournament on Wednesday, the #11 seed in Academy of Art women's tennis squared up against the #6 seed in Hawaii Pacific, and it was the Sharks that came out with the win to move on to the next round.

With a lead on Court 1 in doubles was the duo of sophomore Amelija Supulniece and sophomore Estelle Najean who held a 4-3 advantage, but the match would be marked as unfinished due to HPU taking the other two courts and clinching the doubles point to hold a 1-0 lead.

As ART U left Court 6 empty in singles, the Sharks just needed two points to clinch the match and move on to battle Concordia. Taking the first available on Court 2 and Court 4, HPU would come out with the match win, leaving Court 1, 3, and 5 unfinished for Supulniece, freshman Stefani Georgieva, and senior Paulina Alvarez. Although the trio of matches were halted, all three managed to be tied or winning their second set at the time of the match concluding.

To close out the season, ART U will play in their last match of the tournament against the #10 seed in Hawaii Hilo tomorrow at 5 p.m.
