TIPPING OFF

The Knights took one of three from the Hawaiian contingent defeating UH Hilo but losing to Chaminade before an electrifying overtime matchup with BYU-Hawaii ended in a tough 112-107 loss. Academy of Art got career highs from Aaron Anderson against the Vulcans (22 pts), Herman Pratt against the Silverswords (20 pts), and Alexis Moore against the Seasiders (31 pts), while the 107 points scored in the overtime loss was a program record.

MAZA MAKING IT COUNT
Big men in basketball don't usually have a reputation for being good free throws shooters. In fact, it's often quite the opposite, with forwards and centers paying the price at the rim as teams are more willing to gamble at the charity stripe. But Maza, coming in at 6-10, stands above the rest, leading the Urban Knights with a career free-throw percentage of 80.6%. This year he checks in at 81.5%, which ranks first on the team again and eighth in the conference, making 44 of 54 from the line this year and posting six perfect games from the line, including a pair of 6-for-6 performances. Maza is now averaging 8.5 points per game and shooting a good percentage from the floor as well, shooting 47% from the field in his senior campaign.

DIXIE STATE HITS SNAG IN JANUARY
The Red Storm swept their way through the beginning half of the season, winning every game in 2013 and the first two of 2014 before losing their first game of the year to Hawaii Pacific on January 6th. Since then, they have dropped two more games in the last week, falling to California Baptist on January 18th and then losing on the final possession against Point Loma Nazarene University on January 25th. They're led by Zach Robbins, who is averaging 16.8 points per game, good for eighth in the conference. Robbins is also leading the conference in rebound with 9.9 per game, and is also 2.2 blocks per contest, thoroughly clogging the middle of the floor.

CARMON, MOORE PUTTING IN THE TIME
Guards Alex Carmon and Alexis Moore have leading the team in scoring so far this year, and it hasn't been for no reason, since they also ranks second and third in the conference in minutes played. Moore is playing 35.3 minutes per game and averaging 16.8 points per contest, and has also made the third-most three-pointers in the conference (46). Carmon is coming in at 34.9 minutes per game and is averaging 17.4 points per contest, which is fifth in the PacWest. The career record for minutes per game was set by Ameer Shamsud-din at 35.7, which Moore is within striking distance of. The pair are also leading the team in rebounds, with Moore grabbing 6.6 boards and Carmon right behind at 6.4 rebounds.

POINT LOMA SITTING AT EVEN IN PACWEST
The Sea Lions' last-second win over Dixie State broke a two-game skid that included losses to Azusa Pacific and California Baptist, and PLNU has been living on the edge all season. So far this season, seven of their games have been decided by five points or less, including the first matchup between these two teams that the Knights won 65-63 in the final minutes. Alex Carmon had a double-double in that game, totaling 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Hayden Lescault had 21 points for the Sea Lions. Lescault is leading the team in points per game (17.4 ppg) and is fourth in the conference, while Junior Morgan is averaging 13.6 points per game. AJ Ussery is pulling down 6.8 rebounds per game, with Morgan right behind him at 6.4 rpg.

IN TRANSITION
After the short road trip, the Knights will return home for a game against Notre Dame de Namur on February 8th, and then will have a short break before playing three games in five days starting at home against Holy Names on February 15th.
