San Francisco, CA -- Academy of Art University Women's Tennis rose to 14-1 on the season with a pair of victories Friday at Bay Club San Francisco, putting away Division I Montana State 6-3 and Holy Names 9-0. Sophomore Jenny Johansson along with freshmen Michelle Dandik Zaale and Lucia Zavarcikova each added a pair of straight sets singles victories to their respective 2013 records.

In the first match of the day, ART U quickly got ahead of Montana State 2-1 after freshman Nina Gajdosikova combined with junior Daniela Amelunge Antelo to defeat Char Hjalmarsson and Paulina Lopez 8-4 in the #1 position while, at #3, Johansson and Zavarcikova topped Ellie Crum and Liana Bates 8-3. MSU's Wena Tsan and Iva Parapunova took a victory over senior Amal Ben El Hadj and Dandik Zaale at #2 due to retirement.

Moving into singles, the Academy of Art #2-4 all came away with quick victories. Dandik Zaale prevailed over Parapunova 6-3, 6-1 at #2, Johansson cruised past Tsan 6-0, 6-1 at #3, and Zavarcikova went 6-3, 6-3 over Lopez at #4. Wins for Montana State at #5 and #6 came with Crum going 6-0, 6-1 against freshman Tamara Kenia and Bates capturing a 6-1, 6-3 result versus sophomore Sarah Lemp.

ART U had in effect earned enough wins for the overall victory, but the final singles match between the two teams was a hard-fought three-setter between Gajdosikova and Hjalmarsson at #1. After Gajdosikova got ahead early with a win in the opening set, her opponent came back to snatch the second, but the ever determined Bratislava, Slovakia native finished strong ultimately winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-1.

Welcoming Holy Names to Bay Club San Francisco for their second match of the day, the Urban Knights wasted little time taking the lead with just a single game sacrificed in doubles. Competing at #3, Lemp and Kenia were also 8-0 winners over Bonnie Brazee and Carmen Delgado.

Academy of Art was again in control for the singles pairings. Five of six Knights won 6-0, 6-0 as Dandik Zaale defeated Martinez at #2, Johansson topped Beeby at #3, Zavarcikova got past Stutz at #4, Kenia took care of Brazee at #5, and Lemp made short work of Delgado at #6. Despite conceding four games to Belgica in the #1 position, Gajdosikova still put away her Holy Names opponent in straight sets 6-1, 6-3.

The Urban Knights are back on the road starting tomorrow with a match at Cal State Stanislaus tomorrow, Mar. 23, that is set to begin at 12:00 PM on the CSUS Tennis Courts in Turlock, CA.
