Rob Garcia became Academy of Art University associate athletics director, media relations in September 2019 after serving five seasons as assistant athletics director, media relations since 2014.
Garcia previously spent two seasons as ART U's sports information director (2012-14), one year as sports information manager (2011-12), and three seasons as a sports information assistant (2008-10). With the help of his dedicated support staff, Garcia was named
Pacific West Conference SID of the Year in 2012-13 and, with Sports Information Director Stephen Ellis,
claimed the title for a second time in 2015-16.
Garcia is responsible for all functions involving sports information, media relations, game oversight and statistics, while serving as a contact for all 15 intercollegiate teams at Academy of Art. He also creates pre and post-game releases and other publications along with filming and editing video content for the department's website and social media pages. Prior to joining Academy of Art, Garcia, a Bay Area native, spent the 2008 fall season working as a member of the game-day staff with San Jose State University football. He graduated from UC Santa Barbara in 2008 with an bachelor's degree in Communications and with a minor in Sports Management. At UCSB, he worked as sports director and a sports broadcaster for KCSB 91.9 FM, the campus radio station, in addition to serving as a sports staff writer for the Daily Nexus, the campus newspaper.
