Santa Clara, CA --
The Academy of Art tennis team put their streak of 30 consecutive singles victories in a row on the line on Friday afternoon at the Decathalon Club, and amidst stormy weather and against a tough test in Division I San Jose State, the Urban Knights saw that run come to an end, losing 7-0.

"What we can say from that match was thank goodness we got the match in," said head coach Jerry Peach. "It just isn't easy to get playing time in so getting this match in this afternoon was important. The girls playing a strong Division I team like San Jose State was well worth our time to get down here and deal with things."

Due to the wet weather, the Spartans (7-3)  played the singles matched first to beat the rain, and the host team won all six singles matches to capture their sixth straight victory. Jenny Johansson had the best match for Academy of Art (8-6) pushing her singles matchup to a third set and a tiebreaker, but falling to her Spartan opponent 6-3, 4-6, 10-4. Daniela Amelunge Antelo also had a solid day, but dropped her #4 singles match 6-4, 6-3 to Isadora Busch.

"One fact of life with college tennis is that it's just really difficult to get all of the players you put on the court to have a good day," said Coach Peach. "We had some who didn't have great days, some with so-so days, and Jenny Johansson had a great day. The problem is we need to get everybody playing that well."

The two teams were able to get two of the three doubles matches in as well before rain called the third match, and San Jose State held on in doubles play to earn the sweep. Sabastiana Leon Chao, who came in leading the Spartans in the top spot, and Erica Medlin won their singles matches and paired up to take the number one doubles match from the Knights.

Academy of Art will try and beat the weather again as they host PacWest foe Dixie State at home on Saturday.
