TIPPING OFF

The Urban Knights opened conference play with a close-fought match against Notre Dame de Namur, but were turned away in from Belmont in the final minute with a tough 76-68 loss. Alex Carmon had his first 20-point game of his career, while Czar Robotham poured in 18 points and Ameer Shamsud-din had 17 points and five assists.

TAKING WHAT'S FREE
Academy of Art had struggled the past couple games with their free throws, starting off the year with three solid games and then dipping against Cal State Dominguez Hills (.545) and Northwest Nazarene (.500). After the first half against NDNU, the Knights were back in a similar situation, missing six shots from the charity stripe. But they turned that around in the second half, going 13-for-13 from the line to close out the game. Carmon (8-for-8), Robotham (2-for-2), and Shamsud-din (5-for-5) were all perfect for the line as the Knights got back to their season-norm against the Argos.

HAWKS STILL ON THE GROUND
Holy Names is experiencing growing pains across the program in their first year of membership in the Pacific West Conference, but the talent on their basketball team is something that the Urban Knights cannot get complacent about. The Hawks are averaging 64.2 points per game. Junior guard Tyler Fry is leading the way for the Hawks with 12.4 points per game and 5.8 rebounds per game, both team highs. The Knights hold a 2-2 record all-time against Holy Names, with their most recent game back in December of 2010.

ONE-TWO-THREE PUNCH
Ameer Shamsud-din and Czar Robotham are having almost identical seasons so far on the offensive front, both averaging 15.5 points per contest from the backcourt. Their shooting percentages are separated by one-thousandth of a point, and their free-throw percentages are also only different by a hundredth of a point. Alex Carmon is also breaking into the backcourt action, becoming the third Urban Knight to average in double figures this season, coming in at an even 12.0 points per game.

ON THE REBOUND
After the game against the Hawks, the Urban Knights will play at Cal State Monterey Bay on Dec. 15 before the final home game of the calendar year on Dec. 19 against Simon Fraser on Dec. 19 in a rematch with the Canadian GNAC opponent, the first since the Knights thrilling 84-83 win last year.
