Men's Golf Finishes 14th at Pioneer Shootout

The Academy of Art men's golf team produced their best round (336) on the final day of the Pioneer Shootout hosted by Cal State East Bay Tuesday Afternoon. The Urban Knights finished round three just one stroke behind 13th place Dominican University. As a team, ART U carded a 1027 (337-354-336) over the three rounds to finish 14th.

Western Washington used a strong third round to take the lead from Chico State. The Vikings (897) boasted a tournament low 300 as a team on the final day to finish the Shootout ten strokes ahead of second place Chico State (907). Sonoma State (910) came in three shots behind the Wildcats for a third place finish. Cal State San Bernardino's Kenny Pigman used a 3-under par 69 in his third round to best the competition, and claim the individual title.

For Academy of Art, Stuart Favretto shaved nine strokes off of his second round score to finish round three with a 78. His total score 247 (82-87-78) landed him in a tie for 55th place out of the 77-golfer field. Matt Garcia boasted nine birdies in the two day event. The senior carded a 251 (81-85-85) to place 63rd overall. Carlos Nones finished the tournament in a four way tie for 65th. While Thomas Krepp and Josh Purvis rounded out the group, finishing in 72nd and 74th place respectively.

The Urban Knights next travel to Livermore, CA to take part in the NDNU Invitational hosted by Notre Dame de Namur University on Monday, March 14.
