Zanichelli Under Par After First Round Of NCAA Regionals

NCAA Division II West-South Central Regionals (Day 1)

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Entering the NCAA Division II West/South Central Regional as an individual, Academy of Art men's golfer Giulio Zanichelli represented the Urban Knights at the Victoria Club on the first day of action, and put together a round of 1-under-par 71 in the process, good for 34th place of 108 competitors thus far.

Starting with two birdies and three pars in the opening five holes, Zanichelli peaked as high as fourth place overall in the early stages. A bogey on hole six would put him back at one under par, and he would stay at the same score by the end of the back nine after shooting above and below par on two occasions each.

Leading the team portion of the tournament is the No. 1 team in NCAA Division II in Colorado Christian, who holds a two stroke lead over Cal State San Bernardino. Individually, Oskari Nikku of Oklahoma Christian and Baptiste Touchard of St. Mary's (Tex.) are ahead of the pack as the duo each shot a 9-under-par 63. Through one round, the individual table stays competitive as 34 golfers have shot under par.

Zanichelli will head out for the second round tomorrow morning at the Victoria Club.
