2025 Last Chance Indoor National Qualifier Results
BOSTON, Mass. – Academy of Art track & field followed the theme of saving one's best performances for last at the fittingly titled Last Chance Indoor National Qualifier inside Boston University's Track & Tennis Center on Sunday. Among the memorable performances was that of
Lina Hanich who authored multiple top-five times in NCAA Division II history including another breaking of the program's 800m record.
For the fifth time in her career, Hanich improved upon the best 800m race run by an Urban Knight as she battled multiple professional athletes in her heat. The Advertising major would end up second only to Kate Mitchell of New Balance with a new personal record 2:04.49 that elevated her to fourth in NCAA DII history. Hanich remains second in the division and is joined among the nation's top 25 by
Michaela Andrews who took over the second spot in program history with a 2:09.96 that had her seventh of 31 on the day.
The same duo of Hanich and Andrews excelled in the 500m as well, taking over the top two spots in program as well as NCAA DII history. Both offering marks that rank among the top 10 in NCAA DII to date, Hanich went 1:12.36 for third in history and Andrews' 1:15.72 put her ninth in history.
Literally saving his best for his last of six jumps,
Yacouba Gnacko delivered a season-best 50-8 (15.44m) on his final attempt. The effort not only won him the day in a field of nine but put him back among the country's top five as an Indoor Nationals provisional qualifier.
Ethan Forbes was responsible for a new program record in the men's 800m as well, running his first sub-1:51.00 mark of the year. In what was more than a half-second improvement from his previous best from two days prior, the native of Brisbane, Australia went 1:50.81 to take down a top ART U time that had stood since 2021. Among Indoor Nationals provisional qualifiers, Forbes rose nearly 20 spots on the NCAA DII list into the top 30 overall.
The men's 200m featured another dynamic performance from
Ajani Ince who bettered his previous indoor best by 0.08 seconds with a clean 21.00 across the finish line. Still second to newly-christened multiple Hall of Famer
Mobolade Ajomale in program history, Ince put himself among the top 10 in the country in the event. Ince also placed first out of 41 sprinters in the 60m dash prelims with a time of 6.79.
Three different Knights posted Indoor Nationals provisional marks in the men's 400m as
Josh Marlin (47.56),
Tre'Sean Bouie (47.65), and
Tariq Dacres (48.01) all went sub-48.42 to add their names to the list. Bouie's first indoor provisional had him inside the top 35 in NCAA DII while Dacres' improvement on his season-best took him up to 57th overall.
Two of those Knights, Bouie and Dacres, later joined Ince and
Kailen Perry in producing the best 4x400m relay mark from Academy of Art this season. Part of a very close finish with Alabama-Huntsville and Central Connecticut in their heat, the quartet blazed to 3:10.79 for a top 10 Indoor Nationals provisional qualification.Â
For those who qualify, the opportunity to become a National Champion and All-American will come at Indoor Nationals set for Mar. 13-15 in Indianapolis.
