KNIGHT WATCH
Starting fresh after the squad's four-game win streak was broken up by Chaminade, ART U will look to bounce back and regain a few victories against two bottom-three teams in the Pacific West Conference standings.Â
Taking over the team's lead in scoring, senior forward Isaiah Williams now averages 14.4 points per game while senior guard Rodney Munson is right there with him with an average of 14.2. Remaining consistent, in the game against Chaminade, Williams scored double-digit points for his 10th straight contest while it was his 18th time this season, all while securing his first double-double of his time at ART U. Senior forward Quintin Metcalf and redshirt junior guard Donovan Vickers have continued to average double-digit points as well, as the four consistent starters ensure passing around the rock to one another.Â
In the conference ranks, Metcalf continues to shine as he is second overall in both rebounds per game (8.4) and blocks per game (1.4), while both Williams and Munson both rank within the top 10 in points per game.
PUNISHING THE PENGUINS
Preparing for their contest with ART U, the Penguins are looking to keep it rolling as they won most recently against Hawaii Pacific on Feb. 1 in a heated two-point 54-52 triumph on the road. Being the only win in their last five showings, Dominican will need a win here against ART U to elevate their chances to make a late push towards receiving a spot in the PacWest Tournament, which will take place on their home floor. The top double-digit scoring quartet of Penguins will need to work together to find a victory, including Nathan Ilunga on defense where he averages the most rebounds per game on his squad (7.2). Although Dominican leads the all-time series 20-14, ART U has had the best success most recently, winning the last six-straight games.
OAK-AY, HERE WE GO AGAIN
Ready to run it back after a brutal 91-89 overtime loss against ART U on Jan. 25 at home, Menlo recently has been unable to find the win column since as they dropped their two contests after the fact against Hawaii Pacific and UH Hilo. The Oaks will host Biola prior to visiting the Knights, and will look to gain momentum in the contest to try and take down two top-three teams in the PacWest standings back-to-back. Landon Seaman, the second-highest scorer in the conference this season with 20.7 points per game, will need to have a big game in order to take down Academy of Art. Preston Le Gassick (15.5 ppg) will be there trying to support, but Seaman will need to lock down the block as well as he brings in the most boards for his team as well with an average of 7.7 rebounds per game. This will be the second contest between the two after the game earlier this season.
SILENCING THE SLUGS
UC Santa Cruz, members of the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference, will visit Kezar Pavilion as well to take on the Knights for a non-conference battle. Additionally members of NCAA Division III, the Banana Slugs are in search of success as they've dropped their last four showings. Joseph Epsy leads his squad currently in scoring with 16.8 points per game, while Zino Okah and Andrew Ferrara-Jones will look to help out as they each contribute just over 12.0 per game. Espy also leads down near the glass, averaging 7.4 rebounds per game. Also with a small history, ART U leads 2-0 against the Slugs.
ART U WATCHES LATE PUSH FROM SILVERSWORDS TAKE 68-63 WIN
Both squads in this PacWest matchup carried strong leads, but after Chaminade managed to gain a burst late in the second half, the Silverswords would take the victory over Academy of Art men's basketball in a 68-63 final on Feb. 1.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Urban Knights will continue their homestand with a matchup against Westmont for the first time this season on Feb. 15 before playing in a rematch against Dominican on the road on Feb. 17.
