KNIGHT WATCH

Carrying more overall victories than five other PacWest teams, Academy of Art's 10 wins have included triumphs over SF State (
Nov. 8), Cal State Monterey Bay (
Nov. 9), Cal Maritime (
Nov. 12), Stanislaus State (
Nov. 16), Sonoma State (
Nov. 21), UC Merced (
Dec. 1), Chaminade (
Dec. 21), Jessup (
Jan. 8), Lincoln (Calif.) (
Jan. 11), and CUH once again (
Feb. 1) thus far in the Knights' 2024-25 campaign. With just one of the team's last nine opponents finishing with a field goal percentage above .400, ART U has maintained the conference's lowest opponent field goal percentage (.343) along with dishing out the third-most assists per contest (12.5).
At least seven different Knights have scored in each of the squad's last 24 consecutive games (30 straight dating back to the end of last year) with seven continuing to put in more than 5.0 points per contest. Junior guard
Alba Rovira Ayuso has scored in double figures in four of her last six outings to pace the team with 9.6 points per game though she is not far from Sifaoui (9.5), sophomore guard
Lucia Revenga (6.7), Ojide Boiko (6.6), redshirt freshman guard
Karereatua Williams (6.3), sophomore guard
Maddie Morrow (5.3), and sophomore guard
Anna Fornells (5.1).
Ojide Boiko's team-high 5.5 rebounds per game have helped her reach 598 career rebounds (third in ART U history) with 348 coming on the defensive glass (fourth in ART U history) and 250 on the offensive end (tied for second-most in ART U history). With 30 blocks to date in her debut season, freshman forward
Keira Mitchell is already tied for seventh-most in a single season by an Urban Knight while averaging 1.3 per contest (fifth in PacWest). Revenga has logged at least one assist in all 24 games, giving her 2.6 per contest (eighth in PacWest).
SHARK ATTACK
After starting the season by winning three of its first five games including two against UH Hilo, Hawaii Pacific had a four-game win streak followed by a stretch of eight straight losses to bring the Sharks' record to 9-14 overall and 5-12 in PacWest play. Leading the conference in defensive rebounds per game (30.1) while holding opponents to the second-lowest field goal percentage (.358) and adding the second-most blocks per contest (4.0), HPU has looked to Megan Jones as a significant contributor averaging 2.3 rejections (first in PacWest) and 5.7 rebounds (17th in PacWest) per game. A back-and-forth series over the past three seasons has resulted in Hawaii Pacific's 18-9 all-time lead versus ART U.
VULCANS' VISITING
Since closing out the month of January with a victory over Academy of Art, UH Hilo has sustained four losses in five games, besting only Chaminade while falling to Fresno Pacific, Jessup, and Menlo twice. The Vulcans, who wrap up their Northern California road trip with ART U following matchups with Dominican (Feb. 19) and Jessup (Feb. 22), still have one of the conference's top five scorers in Caiyle Kaupu (16.6 points per game, fourth in PacWest) as she sports the PacWest's third-highest field goal percentage (.477). The win earlier this season broke the two teams' tie in the historical matchup with UH Hilo now in front of the Knights 13-12.
27-POINT FOURTH HAS ART U NEARLY COMPLETE COMEBACK
Resiliently fighting back against an early deficit, Academy of Art women's basketball had Dominican's advantage down to just two possessions at the end of the third quarter, but shooting over 50 percent from the field could not prevent the Penguins' eventual 57-48 Pacific West Conference victory on
Feb. 17 inside the Conlan Center.
LOOKING AHEAD
Though the Urban Knights' home games will be complete after Monday, two more regular season contests remain as ART U travels to Southern California once again to face Concordia (Feb. 27) and Azusa Pacific (Mar. 1).
