NCAA DII National Championship (Day 3)
WINTER GARDEN, Fla. – Representing the Pacific West Conference as the only participant in the final tournament of the season,
PacWest Golfer of the Year Giulio Zanichelli finished the campaign off with his best single-round score of the NCAA Division II National Championship, concluding the national tournament with a 1-over-par 72 today and 6-over-par 219 overall.
The junior began his final playthrough with two birdies in his first three holes on the day, and from then on scored par nine-straight times up until Hole 12. Zanichelli's longest par or better streak of the three-day competition came during that stretch, progressing himself to score the best he has in the tournament. Scoring better than three other individually entered opponents, Zanichelli performed better than 46 in total.
Wyatt Provence of West Texas A&M finished as the individual champion, concluding the tournament with a 12-under-par 201, five strokes better than second place. In the team standings, West Florida finished in first with a 14-under-par 838, a stroke ahead of Oklahoma Christian. Six other teams joined the top eight, with Wingate and West Texas A&M squeaking in after a tie for seventh. The eight teams will now enter match play, which will commence over the course of the next two days.
