2024 NCAA DII West/South Central Regionals (Second Round)
LAS CRUCES, N.M. – Junior
Giulio Zanichelli excelled through his second round of the NCAA Division II West/South Central Regionals on Friday, as the Parma, Italy native shot a 1-under-par 70 on the day, bringing his total score through two rounds to a 4-under-par 138.
"Today was a good battle," said Head Coach
Joe Dolby. "We knew conditions were going to be tougher, and the course was going to give us some surprises. Giulio stuck with his plan and made some clutch putts and par saves to keep his momentum going, and he birdied two of his final four holes to finish under par for the day. Our goal is three rounds under par, and we are 2-for-2 so far. One more day and we will see what happens!"
Zanichelli, competing in the tournament as an individual for Academy of Art men's golf, maintained his top-10 standing throughout the second day of action. Finishing today's round tied for sixth place overall, Zanichelli holed four birdies as he now holds the best placement among individuals who entered the tournament by 24 places.
Tied with two others at his sixth-place position, the group of three are only two strokes behind the individual-leading trio in Adam Duncan of Colorado Christian, Leandro Mihaich of Oklahoma Christian, and Chris Wardrup of Cal State San Bernardino who all lead the field as they shot a 6-under-par 136 apiece.
Zanichelli will conclude the NCAA Division II West/South Central Regionals tomorrow as he closes out his third round of action at University Golf Course.
