Hot Dirt Classic (Round 1)

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Academy of Art men's golf concluded the first round of the Hot Dirt Classic hosted by Colorado School of Mines on Friday with one member of the Urban Knights in the top 20 out of a field of over 100 competitors, all while ART U finished the first round with a 24-over-par 312 overall as a unit. 

Junior Giulio Zanichelli saw his score round out at a 1-over-par 73 through the first play through, holing three birdies in the front nine. Senior Jack DeBenedetti, senior Allan Osornio, and junior Anson Pan all finished near the same area within the standings, as DeBenedetti wrapped up the day with a 7-over-par 79 with Osornio and Pan right behind each at a 8-over-par 80. Freshman Miguel Mendoza was next on the Knights, concluding the round with a 15-over-par 87. 

Dallas Baptist currently leads the tournament as a team, as they shot a 2-under-par 286, which ranks two strokes ahead of second place Colorado Christian. In the individual rankings, Sam Jenkins of DBU shares first place with Chris Chomyn of Stanislaus State, as they each recorded a 5-under-par 67. 

ART U will run the course back tomorrow for the final round of the Hot Dirt Classic.
