2022 Western Washington University Invitational (Rounds 1 & 2)

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – It was a busy day out on the links for Academy of Art men's golf as they played both of the first two rounds of the 2022 Western Washington University Invitational on Monday, and a pair of Urban Knights sit inside the top 30 of a crowded 90+ golfer field while ART U rests in 15th as a unit at 28-over-par 604. 

Leading the Urban Knights in a tie for 26th place at 2-over-par 146 is sophomore Giulio Zanichelli, as he carded the lowest ART U score in round one at 1-under-par 71 thanks to for total birdies, two on each of the front and back nine. Zanichelli kept the momentum rolling with a pair of birdies in the first five holes of round two, but finished the round at 3-over-par 75. 

Just behind Zanichelli on the leaderboard is fellow sophomore Anson Pan, combining a 3-over-par 75 in round one with the lowest ART U score in round two, an even-par 72,  to rest in a tie for 30th place at 2-over-par 146. After three birdies in round one, Pan's second round featured another two birdies as well as an eagle, as he was just one of 17 players to record an eagle on the day.

Rounding out the scoring for Academy of Art was junior Allan Osornio in a tie for 68th place at 11-over-par 155, while sophomore Ralph Kho is tied for 70th at 12-over-par 156. 

Atop the team leaderboard is host school Western Washington at 15-under-par 561, barely just one stroke ahead of the top finishing Pacific West Conference school in Holy Names. HNU also features one of the golfers tied for the individual lead in Edvin Backlstrom, who shares a piece of the lead at 8-under-par 136 with Dustin Franko of fellow PacWest member UH Hilo.

The WWU Invitational concludes with the final round tomorrow, with tee times for all teams beginning at 9 a.m.
