KNIGHT WATCH

Just two games into the 2022-23 season, Academy of Art is among the Pacific West Conference leaders, ranking first in rebounding margin (+2.5) as well as second in three-point percentage (.318) and free throw percentage (.757).
The team carries two of the PacWest's top nine scorers in sophomore guard
Jadence Clifton, whose 19.0 points per game are third, and sophomore forward/center
Alisha Wilson, whose 13.0 points per contest are ninth. Clifton has shot the lights out in her first two games as an Urban Knight, connecting on 11-of-15 shots from the field (.733 percent) to sit second in the conference, adding 4.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game (tied for fifth in PacWest). Meanwhile, Wilson has collected a double-double in each of her outings, returning her to the top of the PacWest at 11.0 rebounds per contest. The Pomona, Calif. native has gone 12-for-20 from the floor (.600 percent) to open the year fourth in the conference in field goal percentage.
Checking in at 10th in the PacWest in rebounds per game, sophomore forward/center
Christy Ojide is collecting 6.0 boards through two contests while adding the fourth-highest blocks per game average (1.5). She is also fourth on the squad in scoring (8.0 points per game) just back of senior guard
Lauryn Manns' 8.5 points per contest.
BEYOND THE BAY
Picked to finish sixth in the CCAA Preseason Coaches Poll, Cal State East Bay comes off a historic 2021-22 campaign in which the Pioneers went 24-3 and made their first-ever appearance in the NCAA DII West Region title game. Thus far in 2022, the new look CSUEB squad is 1-1 with a 73-66 win over Northwest Nazarene following a loss to Central Washington. The Pioneers' scoring leader has been Delia Moore at 17.0 points per game while Payton Sterk has followed with 13.5 points and a team-high 9.5 rebounds per contest. Academy of Art leads the historical matchup against Cal State East Bay 6-4 with the most recent pairing of the two teams coming in the opening round of the NCAA DII Tournament last year – a game
won by CSUEB 67-49.
STANISLAUS STATE OF AFFAIRS
Selected just two spots lower than Cal State East Bay in eighth in the CCAA Preseason Coaches Poll, Stanislaus State managed to remain above .500 with a 12-10 campaign last year before opening 2022-23 at 0-2 with losses to Northwest Nazarene and Central Washington. The Warriors will look for their first win of the season when they host Holy Names on the first day of the Warrior Classic before ART U the following afternoon. Just one Stanislaus State competitor is averaging double figures offensively, Makayla Jackson (11.5 points per game), but Liliana Marques is not far off at 9.5 points plus a team-best 6.5 rebounds per contest. Going back-and-forth since the teams' first meeting in 2008, the Knights and Warriors are an even 3-3 all-time.
PACIFIC TIME
The Tigers of University of the Pacific went 6-23 last season and were picked to finish ninth in the NCAA Division I West Coast Conference, but have started this year 2-1. Pacific picked up wins over UC Riverside and Nevada while dropping a decision to Stanford in between and have a Nov. 18 contest hosting Rice up prior to ART U arriving in town. Three Tigers are averaging double figures in the scoring department led by Liz Smith's 14.3 points per game while Elizabeth Elliott adds 11.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. Tuesday will be the first meeting of Academy of Art and Pacific to date.
ACADEMY OF ART SWEEPS SEASON SERIES WITH 3-1 WIN OVER DU
A 13-point deficit early in the second quarter did not faze Academy of Art women's basketball as the Urban Knights promptly highlighted their final game of the 2022 SF State Gator Invitational with 13 unanswered points on
Nov. 12 inside SFSU's Main Gymnasium. Unfortunately for ART U, the Gators steadily built a double-digit lead over the second half before winning 62-52 on their home court despite sophomore guard
Jadence Clifton's game-high 21 points and another double-double from sophomore forward/center
Alisha Wilson.
LOOKING AHEAD
Though the Urban Knights will play one more non-conference game this year, PacWest play is set to begin next week with a trip to Southern California for games at Point Loma (Dec. 1) and Concordia (Dec. 3) up first.
