2022 Wildcat Classic (Rounds 1 & 2)
MARYSVILLE, Calif. – Out in front of Academy of Art men's golf after the first two rounds of the Wildcat Classic hosted by Chico State are sophomore
Giulio Zanichelli and junior
Jack DeBenedetti, as the duo is tied for 27th place at 2-over-par 146 while ART U sits an 11th as a unit at a combined score of 20-over-par 596.
It was a fairly even pair of rounds for Zanichelli, turning in a round one score of 2-over-par 74 while closing the second round at even-par 72 with a total of seven birdies on the day, four of which came in the opening 18 holes. However, it was DeBenedetti who turned in the best single round by an Urban Knight on the day, starting off his first round with a 3-under-par 69 thanks to an eagle on the second hole. He was one of just 14 competitors in the field to do so, and also recorded the most birdies in a single round with five before completing his day with a total of seven.
Also scoring for ART U was sophomore
Anson Pan, carding scores of 3-over-par 75 and 4-over-par 76 as he is currently in a timer for 52nd place at 7-over-paar 151. Trailing just behind him is junior
Allan Osornio, currently and 55th place at 9-over-par 153.
Ahead of the host Wildcats is familiar West Region foe Sonoma state, sitting on top of the leaderboard at 19-under-par 557 thanks to the efforts of the current overall individual leader Griffin Pace. He did not record a single bogey throughout his second round, helping him to end the action the days action at 12-under-par 132 thanks two identical scores of 6-under-par 66. The top Pacific West Conference school thus far is Holy Names in fourth, led by the top PacWest individual Luke Duggar in a tie for third at 9-under-par 135.
The final round of the 2022 Wildcat Classic gets underway tomorrow with a shotgun start beginning at 8:30 a.m.
