2021 Academy of Art Invitational (Full Results)
NAPA, Calif. – Playing host to the Academy of Art Invitational from the Silverado Resort, men's golf posted their best round of the tournament with a combined score of 305 despite extremely windy conditions, but it wasn't enough for the Urban Knights to claim victory as they would finish in third place. The effort was boosted by a pair of ninth place performances from seniors
Otto Homruen and
Gabriel De Leon Manotoc, as the duo each ended the tournament at 10-over-par 154.
Homruen, who had entered the day in tie for eighth place, dropped back a spot after carding a 5-over-par 77 during the final round. Besting him by one stroke on the round was De Leon Manotoc, who notched a 4-over-par 76 to crack the top-10 after beginning the day tied for 13th. By the end of the tournament, De Leon Manotoc had recorded 23 pars, tied for the second-most in the tournament. Checking in at 14th place was junior
Julius Kreutzer, using two birdies to go 4-over-par in the final round en route to ending the tournament at 13-over-par 157. Finishing the scoring for ART U was freshman
Jack DeBenedetti, also dropping a pair of birdies as he concluded the action in 16th place with a 15-over-par 159.
Three players would tie for first to claim the individual tournament title, two of which came from the Seawolves of Sonoma State in Devin Gregg and Thomas Jenkins, while the other was Ryan Hong of Cal State East Bay. The Seawolves would capture the team tournament win as well, just barely edging out the Pioneers by three strokes at 26-over-par 602.
The final tune up for the Urban Knights prior to the PacWest Championships will come on Apr. 12 when they take part in the Sonoma State Spring Invitational.
