ART U TO PLAY FIRST BAY AREA CONTESTS
After making its 2020-21 debut this past weekend, Academy of Art women's basketball turns its attention to fellow Pacific West Conference Bay Area opponent Dominican for a home/road pair of games this week.

ART U will play its first home game this Friday, Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. inside Walter Gleason Gym in Belmont. The following day, Saturday, Feb. 13, sees the Urban Knights and Penguins match up inside Holy Names' Tobin Gymnasium in Oakland, Calif. starting at 4 p.m. Remember to follow @ARTU_Knights via the athletics app (

KNIGHT WATCH
Showing tough defense in their first game of the season on
Feb. 6, Academy of Art forced 25 Fresno Pacific turnovers, scoring 17 points off those miscues. Though the Sunbirds prevailed 68-51, ART U still had three players score in double figures and all but one Urban Knight who entered the contest recorded at least one steal.
Freshman guards
Alyssa Munn and
Brooke Rodgers along with junior guard
Chanel Stuart each had 10 points apiece in ART U's season opener with Munn adding three assists and Stuart contributing three steals. Redshirt sophomore forward
Hailey McCoy, who collected a team-high four steals, finished that game with six rebounds to tie her with junior guard
Lauryn Manns for the most on the night.
THE LOWDOWN ON DOMINICAN
Having been able to compete in two games against Fresno Pacific thus far, Dominican is still in search of its first victory. For a Penguins squad that finished 10-18 overall last year, the 2020-21 iteration looks rather different with newcomer Riley Friauf pacing the team at 21.5 points per game on 56.7 percent shooting from the floor. After going 4-for-7 from long range, Julia Razo adds 16.5 points per contest. The historical matchup between ART U and Dominican lies heavily on the Knights' side at 17-6.
