KNIGHT WATCH
Last week saw the Urban Knights bring their record to 4-7 after picking up two wins in PacWest play, which now has ART U in sixth place in the conference standings. After playing with the lead for 22 minutes and 43 seconds, the Urban Knights were able to
put the game away down the stretch over Chaminade, 75-68. Junior guard
Stefan Milivojevic went 8-for-10 shooting from the floor, including scoring six of his game-high 22 points over the last two minutes and 24 seconds to ice the game. The win was followed by a
defeat at the hands of Bay Area rival Dominican, 77-70, but ART U got back into the win column as
they cruised to victory over NDNU, 74-60. A total team effort was needed as the Urban Knights set team-highs in rebounds (51) and assists (17) on the season. The rebound total was the most that ART U has pulled down in a single game
since they snatched 49 against Hawai'i Pacific on Jan. 30, 2010, with junior forward
Josh Hill leading the way in a double-double effort with 14 rebounds and 12 points.Â
Â
As the team's leading scorer, Milivojevic continued to pace ART U in the points department by totaling 16 in the loss to Dominican before finishing with a game-high 20 against NDNU. His average of 16.5 points per game has him in sixth in the conference, while his shooting percentage of 59.3 percent ranks third. After two games of making four 3-pointers, Milivojevic finds himself atop the conference in three-point field goal percentage, as he is 30-for-60 from downtown (50 percent). Junior guard
Kai Tease is also averaging in double figures with 13.3 points per game, Hill has 5.6 rebounds per game, and junior guard
Joshua Bagley sets the team-high mark of 3.7 assists per game (ranks sixth in the PacWest).Â
Â
CLASH WITH THE COUGARS
First up is an Azusa Pacific team that comes into the matchup averaging 79.8 points per game while allowing only 72.3 points per game, both totals are fourth-best in the PacWest. The Cougars lost two games in Hawai'i to UH Hilo and Chaminade to open PacWest play, but have since gone on a four-game winning streak with victories over Hawai'i Pacific, Fresno Pacific, Holy Names, and Point Loma (PLNU's only conference loss so far this season). Azusa Pacific sits just ahead of the Urban Knights in the conference standings in fifth place. Leading the way for APU is Selom Mawugbe, as he averages a double-double with 15.3 points per game and 10.6 rebounds per game. The leader in assists is Brennan Rymer with 4.4, and he is also in double-digit scoring with 13.8 points per game. The Cougars are leading the all-time matchup with ART U, 10-1.Â
Â
EAGLE SIGHTING
The PacWest-leading Concordia Eagles come into the matchup undefeated in conference play, and have won five straight contests since their last loss to Seattle Pacific on Nov. 16. The three conference wins against Hawai'i Hilo, Fresno Pacific, and Holy Names have all come at home, as they take to the road for the first time in conference action. The Eagles' wins have come on the strength of their scoring, averaging 80.5 points per game. Three players are averaging double figures in scoring, led by Rob McCoy with 13.1 points per game. McCoy also paces the team in rebounds with 5.6 per game, while Andre Green is averaging 2.1 assists per game to go along with 11.8 points per game. Concordia will travel to NDNU before coming to face the Urban Knights. Concordia is out in front in the all-time matchup 5-1, having won the last two games.Â
Â
HAWK-EYE VISION
After winning their first two PacWest games against Fresno Pacific and Hawai'i Pacific, the Hawks have dropped three straight to Chaminade, APU, and Concordia and now find themselves in seventh place in the conference, one spot behind ART U. With nearly identical records currently, this matchup could go a long way to determining the seeding for the PacWest postseason tournament. HNU is eighth in the conference in scoring with 71.5 points per game. Rob Fuller Is the leading scorer and assist-getter with 13.2 points and 4.8 assists per game, while Cameron Fini is pulling down 6.3 rebounds per game to pair with 11 points per game.Having won the past four contests head-to-head, ART U is leading the all-time matchup, 12-5.Â
Â
ART U CLOSES OUT 2019 WITH A VICTORYÂ
The Academy of Art men's basketball team set
season-bests in rebounds and assists in a 74-60 victory over Notre Dame de Namur inside Kezar Pavilion on Dec. 21.
Â
LOOKING AHEAD
The road trip will continue for the Urban Knights, as they will play another three games in seven days against Biola, Point Loma, and Dominican before finally returning to Kezar Pavilion on Jan. 19, 2020.Â
