NCAA Release | Regional Brackets | Selection Show
INDIANAPOLIS – Continuing its historic season, Academy of Art University Softball learned Monday that it will make its first NCAA Division II postseason appearance at West Regionals beginning Thursday, May 10. The Urban Knights, seeded seventh of eight teams from the West Region, will begin by taking on No. 12 Concordia, the second seed and one of two hosts from the region.
"I am so proud of this team," said head coach
Sonja Garnett. "They have fought all year and earned this opportunity. I can't wait to practice tomorrow."
Joining Concordia and ART U in the double-elimination Regional bracket in Irvine will be No. 19 Dixie State, the three seed, and Cal State San Bernardino, the six seed. Academy of Art faces Concordia at 1:30 p.m. on May 10 and, after the teams play their opening-round matchups that day, the winners will play one another on May 11 while the losers will progress through the format which requires two losses to be eliminated. The teams with just one loss or fewer face off in one or potentially two games on May 12.
In the other bracket from the West Region, No. 2 Chico State, the host and top seed, will square off against Northwest Nazarene, the eight seed, and No. 15 California Baptist, the second seed, matches up with No. 20 UC San Diego, the fifth seed.
Winners of the Regional matchups will then advance to the Super Regionals, slated for May 17-18 at the higher seed. The National Championship portion of the bracket will be held May 24-28 at the Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Virginia and will be hosted by the Mountain East Conference and the city of Salem.
