PacWest Conference Weekly Awards (Apr. 30)
IRVINE, Calif. -- After working as a run-producing machine in Academy of Art University Softball's four victories with over UH Hilo and Holy Names,
Jayda Alaan earned her first PacWest Freshman of the Week honor of the season. The award was based on games played Apr. 23-29.
Across ART U's 4-0 week, Alaan batted .625 (5-for-8) with 11 runs batted in, one home run, two doubles, seven runs scored, four walks, and one stolen base. She slugged 1.250 and posted an on-base percentage of .733 as well. In the Urban Knights'
Apr. 24 matchup with UH Hilo, the Architecture major uniquely did not record an at-bat in the first game, being hit by a pitch, hitting a sacrifice fly, and walking twice to end up scoring twice with one RBI. Alaan then drove in three over a 1-for-3 game two performance in which her two-run single served as the difference in a 4-3 victory.
Starting a Senior Day matchup with Holy Names on
Apr. 29, the Diamond Bar native blasted a two-run homer in her first at-bat (what would end up being the game-winning hit and run) then finished the contest 2-for-3 with three RBIs. In her final game of the week, Alaan became program's career leader in hit by pitch in a single season with her 27th hit by pitch as part of a 2-for-2 contest that saw her hit two doubles and drive in four.
Alaan continues to lead all of NCAA Division II in hit-by-pitch and currently ranks seventh in the PacWest in on-base percentage (.497), 10th in runs scored (34), and 16th in batting average (.348).
This is the first PacWest weekly honor for Alaan in her career.
