No. 6 Academy of Art versus Concordia Final Results
Â
SAN FRANCISCO – After falling in a
close match to No. 4 Hawaii Pacific on Tuesday, No. 6 Academy of Art bounced back on Thursday morning, taking down Concordia 6-3.

Â
With a roster that is entirely international, International Women's Day took on a new meaning for ART U women's tennis. Their comradery allowed the Urban Knights to band together in the doubles portion of Thursday's contest, taking all three matches to enter singles with a 3-0 lead. In the first position, the No. 6-ranked twins,
Alma Thell-Lenntorp and
Klara Thell-Lenntorp went about business as usual, defeating their opponents 8-1. Each of the second and third position matches were close in the early goings, but both found their stride and finished strong. In third doubles, junior
Monika Stanikova and freshman
Kristina Gross paired up for the first time this season. Despite trailing early on, the duo managed to pull ahead and ultimately came away victorious with an 8-5 final score. This was Gross' career-first win with ART U.
Â
In singles, Academy of Art again looked dominant, recording wins in the first, third, and fifth positions. Stanikova's victory in first singles was highly significant as the Trencin, Slovakia native took down Anastasiia Kuprina, the No.7-ranked singles player in the nation. Her win was in decisive-fashion as she put together a 6-2, 6-2 score. The other two Urban Knights to record a win were No. 28 K. Thell-Lenntorp (6-4, 6-0), and her sister, A. Thell-Lenntorp (6-1, 6-1). Junior
Taisiia Andrieieva found herself in a similar situation to that of her previous singles match against HPU when she entered a tiebreaker with her Sharks opponent. This time, Andrieieva won the first set 6-2, but then dropped a close second, 7-5. In the super tiebreaker, she immediately built herself a 2-0 lead, but the Eagles' Samantha Schuster managed to pull ahead for a 10-6 win.
Â
Now with a 6-2 overall record, ART U will now continue their busy week when they host Cal State LA on Saturday, March 10 at 1:00 p.m.
