No. 11 Academy of Art versus No. 4 Barry Final Results
MELBOURNE, Fla. – Playing four top-25 teams in a span of four days, No. 11 Academy of Art managed to take down all three of their first opponents. However, against what may be the toughest team that they have faced this season, ART U could not top No. 4 Barry, falling by the score of 8-1.
The Urban Knights' lone victory came in third doubles where juniors
Monika Stanikova and
Paula Alcantara fended off the Buccaneers' Hannah Seizer and Julie Razafindranaly 8-6. In the second position, sophomore
Mariacristina Andrisani and junior
Taisiia Andrieieva kept things close, but ultimately fell 9-7. Barry's first victory of the day came at the top doubles position where No. 22
Alma Thell-Lenntorp and
Klara Thell-Lenntorp's 12-match win streak came to an end versus No. 14 Sonja Larsen and Verena Schmid 8-4.
In singles, ART U faced a formidable BU lineup which featured two nationally-ranked players. While the Knights forced one third set, the Buccaneers took all six contests. Andrisani got out to an early lead in her contest in the second position, but after Seizer won the second, a close tiebreaker went the way of Barry, 10-6.
With their Florida trip complete, Academy of Art returns to the Bay Area for three matches prior to the PacWest Conference Championship. ART U begins with its final regular season road match at Dominican on Apr. 8.
