Women's Tennis Drops Close Match to #22 Point Loma

No. 6 Academy of Art versus No. 22 Point Loma Final Results

SAN DIEGO – Facing No. 22-ranked Point Loma, Academy of Art just missed taking Friday's match against the Sea Lions, coming away with a 5-4 loss in San Diego.

For just the second time this season, ART U only took one doubles match, as twins Alma Thell-Lenntorp and Klara Thell-Lenntorp took first doubles 6-1, 6-3.

Entering singles, the Urban Knights looked to take the hard path to victory where they would need four of the six singles contests to take home the win. ART U fell just short however, winning in the first, fourth, and fifth positions. In first singles, junior Monika Stanikova only surrendered four games in her straight-sets win (6-1, 6-3). Junior Taisiia Andrieieva also came away with a straight-sets victory, taking her match 6-4, 6-2. A. Thell-Lenntorp provided the final win for the Urban Knights, but it took until the tiebreaker of the third set to decide things, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (7-4).

ART U is now 7-3 on the season and they will take part in another important regional match on Saturday, facing No. 9 Azusa Pacific at 1:00 p.m. Click here for live stats.
