No. 7 Academy of Art versus Dominican Final Results

SAN FRANCISCO – Looking for their third consecutive win, No. 7 Academy of Art women's tennis wasted no time in getting to work against Dominican. The Urban Knights swept through doubles 3-0 and then rolled through singles, taking five of the six contests for an 8-1 win.

In No. 3 doubles, juniors
Paula Alcantara and
Monika Stanikova were flawless, never relenting a game in their 8-0 win. Both the first and second positions were strong as well, winning 8-5 and 8-4 respectively.

In the singles portion of the contest, junior
Paula Alcantara only allowed her opponent to take two games as she defeated DUC's Taylor Lin 6-2, 6-0 in the sixth position. Junior
Alma Thell-Lenntorp was dominant as well, winning in fifth singles with a score of 6-1, 6-2. Both Stanikova and 23rd-ranked
Klara Thell-Lenntorp took the first set in ther respective mathes, but both of their opponents retired due to injury in the second. ART U's only loss came in the second position as sophomore
Mariacristina Andrisani fell to Rickimae Torres 2-6, 1-6.

The final match to finish was in fourth singles where junior
Taisiia Andrieieva was battling it out with Kaitlyn Nguyen. Andrieieva took the first set, but her adversary battled back from behind to the take the second. In the tiebreaker, the Odessa, Ukraine native built herself a two-point lead which she kept for the majority of the duel until eventually winning by the score of 10-7.

Now on a 3-game win streak, Academy of Art is 3-1 overall and they will next take on Holy Names this Sunday, February 18, at 1:00 p.m.
