KNIGHT WATCH
19069Two games into the season, Academy of Art ranks first in the Pacific West Conference in rebounding (46.5 per game) with a conference-best 34.5 of those coming on the defensive end each contest. Recognized as the first PacWest Freshman of the Week, guard Chanel Stuart has been a major plus in the rebounding category thus far, averaging 8.5 boards per game (seventh in the PacWest) while adding the most steals per game in the conference (4.5) to date. The conference's rebounding leader is sophomore forward Megan Jefferson who checks in at 10.5 rebounds per game while junior forward Ines Medina is third (9.5 boards per contest) after breaking out for a career-high 13 in ART U's win over Western Oregon. Offensively, the team has leaned heavily on junior guard Brianna Cates, second in the conference in scoring average (22.0 points per game), and sophomore forward Lily Perkins who put up 16 points (13 in the second half) of the victory versus WOU.

A GAUGE ON THE GATORS
Picked to finish 13th in the California Collegiate Athletic Association by the coaches in the preseason poll, SF State has not had a win since January 27, 2018. The Gators fell in their final seven games of the 2017-18 season and their first four of this year's campaign which included pairings with Alaska, No. 6 Alaska Anchorage, as well as ART U's fellow PacWest members Fresno Pacific and Dominican. SFSU is set to open CCAA play on Nov. 23 by hosting Cal State Monterey Bay before taking on the Urban Knights this weekend. Jhaina Stephens leads the Gators offensively, scoring 12.5 points per game and shooting 51.3 percent from the field while adding a team-high 7.8 rebounds per game. Despite both being in San Francisco, Academy of Art and SF State have met just once in the last 10 years – a 59-57 victory for the Gators in December 2008.

FOURTH QUARTER BREAKOUT PUSHES ART U PAST WOU FOR FIRST WIN
Working its way to full strength, Academy of Art women's basketball got a big boost from Perkins who led a second half charge toward a 77-65 victory over Western Oregon inside Cal State East Bay's Pioneer Gym on Nov. 10. Four Urban Knights scored in double figures as a 24-13 fourth quarter edge helped ART U confidently finish the Veteran's Day Classic.

LOOKING AHEAD
Academy of Art will enter into PacWest Conference play next with home games hosting Point Loma (Nov. 29) and Concordia (Dec. 1) at Kezar Pavilion on the horizon.
