ROME, Ga. -- Three Urban Knights had the privilege of taking part in the illustrious ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia over the weekend. Collegiate players spanning across four divisions gathered in hopes of qualifying for the Oracle ITA National Fall Championship. Although unsuccessful in the main bracket, seniors

Klara Thell-Lenntorp worked their way through the consolation bracket for a championship while senior
Monika Stanikova earned a third place finish in the singles consolation bracket.
"Competing at the national level is never easy," said head coach
Clarisse Baca. "We were a little disappointed by the results, but we made changes in tactics and our mental game and saw great improvement in the last day of competition."

The Thell-Lenntorp twins began the tournament as the No. 1 seeded DII doubles team. In the opening round of play the twins were upset by Logan Morrissey and Alexis Czapinski of Washburn University. After being relegated to the consolation bracket the twins defeated University of Charleston's Kristine Gegeshidze and Katie Swann by a score of 6-0, 6-1, 10-5 to advance to the finals where they took down Zhenia Shviadok and Sarah Frendo of Cameron University by way of a 6-1, 6-2 victory to take first place in the doubles consolation bracket.
Stanikova opened the tournament as the No. 2 seeded singles player and faced Vaishali Jorge of University of North Georgia. Stanikova dropped the match to Jorge by a score of 6-1, 6-3 and moved to the consolation bracket where she took a 6-3, 6-0 loss to Zhenia Shviadok of Cameron University. Stanikova earned her first victory of the tournament against New York Institute of Technology's Barbara Quagliardi by way of a 6-1, 6-1 victory to secure third place in the consolation bracket.
The rest of Academy of Art women's tennis will be back in action to compete in the Stanislaus State Invitational Oct. 26-29th for their final tournament of the fall.
