PacWest Conference Weekly Awards (Jan. 15)
IRVINE, Calif. – Coming up with numerous big plays on the defensive end in two Pacific West Conference victories for Academy of Art University women's basketball last week, redshirt senior forward
Pre'Franz Dominick was selected as PacWest Conference Defender of the Week. The award was based on games played Jan. 8-14.
In ART U's 2-0 week, Dominick averaged 3.5 blocks and 3.5 steals per game in addition to 17.5 rebounds per game (10.5 on the defensive end). Beginning with the Urban Knights' 83-78 win over Dominican on
Jan. 10, Dominick delivered 13 rebounds and career-highs of five steals (two during a 17-0 run to shift the momentum) and five blocks. The DeRidder, La. native rejected two shots on two consecutive Penguin possessions in the final minute of a one-possession game to help preserve the win. Against Holy Names on
Jan. 13, the Communications & Media Technologies major registered six of her 14 defensive rebounds in the first quarter and finished with 22 total rebounds along with two steals and two blocks.
For the week, Dominick's seven blocks were tied for the most by any player from the PacWest and her 35 rebounds were the second-highest. On the season, the senior ranks third in rebounding (11.7 rpg), seventh in blocks (1.3), and sixth in the PacWest in points per game (16.6).
This is the first PacWest weekly honor for Dominick in her career.
