PacWest Golfers of the Week - Week of September 21, 2017

IRVINE, Calif. – One of the team's newest members, freshman Matthew Watkins was named this week's PacWest men's Golfer of the Week after an impressive performance in the first collegiate tournament of his career.

 
After posting back-to-back rounds of 78 to open the Sonoma State Fall Invitational, the freshman improved an impressive eight strokes to score a 70 (-2) in the final round. The Novato, Calif. native's score was not only the lowest out of all individuals in the third round, but it was tied for the best score out of the entire tournament. Watkins' performance vaulted him from 20th-place, all the way to a two-way tie for fifth overall.
 
"I was really impressed with Matt this week in the first tournament of his college career," said head coach Andy Moren. "He looked like he had been leading us for four years. His effort this week are something our team can build around and I am looking forward to his future performances." 

This is the first conference honor of Watkins' young career.
