PacWest Conference Women's Track & Field Weekly Awards (Apr. 27)

 
IRVINE, Calif. -- Delivering yet another Academy of Art University record in the 800m, Beatriz Martinez Mercado has been named PacWest Women's Track Athlete of the Week. The award is based on competition from April 10-16.

On Apr. 21 at The Cardinal Classic, Martinez Mercado cut major time off her previous low, going 2:10.48 to enter the country's top 25 in the event. Her previous personal record had been 2:12.36 from mid-March.

On Apr. 22, Martinez Mercado would also join teammates for a NCAA provisional in the 4x400m relay. The quartet offered a 3:46.77 to put themselves now 21st in the country.

This is the first PacWest weekly honor in Martinez Mercado's career and the second Track Athlete of the Week award ART U has received in consecutive weeks.
