No. 11 Academy of Art vs. No. 34 Concordia Final Results
IRVINE, Calif. – Recently ranked 11th in the nation, Academy of Art women's tennis did their ranking justice by defeating No. 34 Concordia 7-2.
In doubles, the Urban Knights were dominant, only dropping two games overall. In the first position, No. 11 sophomores
Alma Thell-Lenntorp and
Klara Thell-Lenntorp swept their opponents 8-0 while sophomore
Taisiia Andrieieva and senior
Annika Schneider and sophomores
Monika Stanikova and
Paula Alcantara each won their match by a score of 8-1.
Moving into singles, ART U needed just two wins to take home the victory. However, the Knights took four of the six matches to collect their 10th win of the season. Stanikova took the first singles match 6-3, 6-1 against her No. 41-ranked opponent. The twins, well, twinned, as they both came away with a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the fifth and sixth positions. Alcantara put an exclamation point on the match with a sweep of her sixth singles opponent, going 6-0, 6-0 to seal the 7-2 victory.
The match against Concordia is the first of three the Urban Knights will compete in during their second trip to Southern California. Next, ART U will face Middlebury College on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. and then No. 21 Azusa Pacific on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.
