SOUTHLAKE, Texas – No. 22 Academy of Art women's tennis again found themselves matched up against a higher-ranked opponent on Sunday. However, for the third time this season, the Urban Knights pulled off an impressive upset, taking down No. 9 St. Mary's (Texas) by a final score of 8-1.

ART U started off the day on a high note, taking two out of three doubles matches from the Rattlers. Freshmen pair
Alma Thell-Lenntorp and
Klara Thell-Lenntorp, ranked No. 5 in the country, were tested against their opponents in the first position. The twins battled, but ultimately fell for the first time this season by a score of 9-8 (7-3). The ART U doubles teams in the second and third positions cruised past their opponents without a hitch, as both took their matches by a score of 8-2.

Now heading into singles, the Urban Knights needed just three more points to take the match. Instead, ART U swept the round, posting an 8-1 finish. Sophomore
Monika Stanikova did well in first singles, defeating her adversary 7-5, 6-3 while both freshman
Mariacristina Andrisani and senior
Annika Schneider took their wins after splitting the first two sets. Schneider posted her own upset as her victory came against No. 6-ranked Ally Maciel. No. 34 K. Thell-Lenntorp and No. 48 A. Thell-Lenntorp redeemed their loss in doubles by each taking their singles matches while only dropping two games apiece.

The Urban Knights will now head home after going 3-0 in Texas and will prepare for their first home match of the season when they host Holy Names on March 3 at Noon.

"I am very proud of my team for the way they fought," said head coach Nicole Briceno-Garzon. "We kept it simple and played smart throughout the lineup. It was very inspiring to see."
