SOUTHLAKE, Texas – Up against its highest-ranked opponent of the year thus far, No. 22 Academy of Art University women's tennis dispatched No. 17 Cameron on Saturday at the Southlake Tennis Courts. After sweeping doubles for the third time in 2017, the Urban Knights were able to add four singles victories all in straight sets.
"I am really proud of the way we competed today," said head coach Nicole Briceno-Garzon. "We played to win and with confidence. This determination is what's going to help us for the matches to come. Regardless of their results, everyone played to win."Â

Alma Thell-Lenntorp and
Klara Thell-Lenntorp did not relinquish a game to Zhenia Shviadok and Mathilde Thibaudat 8-0 in doubles. The second position saw senior
Annika Schneider and
Taisiia Andrieieva put away Paula Gutierrez and Samantha Wood 8-4 while sophomore
Monika Stanikova combined with sophomore
Paula Alcantara for an 8-3 victory over Viola Lugmayr and Magdalena Kovinic.
"Our doubles was solid today despite having two new combinations," said Briceno-Garzon. 'The girls did an excellent job adjusting and coming out fired up."
In singles, Stanikova picked up her first win over a ranked opponent this season with a 7-5, 6-2 result versus No. 21 Paula Gutierrez. Shviadok, ranked No. 32 in singles, earned one of two Cameron victories with a 6-3, 6-2 final against
Mariacristina Andrisani before Thibaudat took a tiebreaker, 6-3, 5-7, 10-4, to defeat Alcantara. The twins finished the day undefeated with No. 34
Klara Thell-Lenntorp topping Wood 6-1, 6-3 and No. 48
Alma Thell-Lenntorp dominating Kovinic 6-1, 6-0. Rounding out the seven ART U wins was Andrieieva's 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Lugmayr.
Academy of Art rises to 4-0 on the year while Cameron is now 1-3. The Knights complete their Texas roadtrip tomorrow with a third neutral site contest against No. 9 St. Mary's (Texas) at 10 a.m. CST in Dallas.
