PacWest Conference Weekly Awards (Feb. 20)

IRVINE, Calif. -- Wielding one of the hottest bats on the team this past week, Academy of Art University softball infielder Gracie Sotomayor was selected Pacific West Conference Freshman of the Week. The award was based on games played Feb. 13-19.

In ART U's 5-3 week that featured a sweep of Northwest Nazarene plus wins over Lincoln Memorial, Fort Lewis, and University of Mary in the Cactus Classic, Sotomayor enjoyed a stretch of five straight games with at least one run batted in then later scored at least one run in five consecutive games. Among the highlights was the continuation of her nine-game hit streak and a 2-for-4 performance against FLC on Feb. 17 that included her first two collegiate doubles.

Through the week's eight games, Sotomayor hit .385 (10-for-26) with eight RBIs, seven runs scored, two doubles, and a steal.

This is Sotomayor's first career PacWest weekly honor.
