KNIGHT WATCH
15449Four games into the season, two freshmen are among Academy of Art's offensive leaders. Freshman outfielder Gabi Hirsch holds a team-best .500 batting average having gone 5-for-10 to start and leads ART U with three runs scored as well as two stolen bases. Freshman infielder Freddie Carrillo is hitting .416 (5-for-12) and has produced six runs with four of those five hits, doubling twice. Freshman pitcher Hannah Rose Balke (1-1) holds the Urban Knights' lone win with a total of 8.1 innings thrown thus far.

LEADING THE CRUSADE
Picked to finish sixth in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference in the coaches' preseason poll, Northwest Nazarene comes off a 17-29 overall record in 2016. The Crusaders are 2-5 thus far in 2017, falling twice to Dixie State on their Opening Day then, in the Montana State Billings Desert Stinger, NNU defeated New Mexico Highlands and Minot State, but dropped games to UH Hilo, Concordia, and Cal State San Bernardino. Kylie Orr has stood out as the team's best offensive player, hitting .435 with three homers and six RBIs while Brooke Bonsen (2-2) sports a 3.16 ERA through four starts and 24.1 innings pitched. ART U and NNU have met five times previously with Academy of Art leading 3-2 all-time.

PIONEERS SWEEP URBAN KNIGHTS IN HAYWARD
Despite getting out to an early lead in game one, Academy of Art University softball was the victim of multiple big rally innings by Cal State East Bay out at Pioneer Field on Feb. 3. A 12-run fourth propelled CSUEB to a 14-2 game one win in five innings and 10 runs through the first pair of innings in game two enabled the Pioneers to win 13-3.

LOOKING AHEAD
With its first three home series complete, ART U heads to Tucson, Ariz. for the three-day Cactus Classic (Feb.17-19) which will feature four different opponents including No. 4 West Texas A&M.
