PacWest Conference Weekly Awards (Jan. 9)
IRVINE, Calif. -- Continuing a dynamic debut season with Academy of Art University women's basketball, junior guard
Rodericka Ware showed her prowess beyond the offensive end during the Urban Knights' 2-1 start to 2017 and has been named Pacific West Conference Defender of the Week for her efforts. The award was based on games played Jan. 2-8.
Ware started the week with four steals, one in each quarter, in the win over Sonoma State on
Jan. 3. She then nearly logged the program's first triple double with eight steals along with 25 points and 11 assists
against Dixie State. The eight thefts all came in the first half and tied the program's single-game record set by four Knights previously.
Ware completed the week with three more steals in a loss to Dominican
Jan. 7. For the week, she averaged 22.0 points (16-for-33 from three-point range), 6.3 assists, 5.0 steals, and 3.0 rebounds per game.
Now averaging 2.8 steals per game, Ware ranks second in PacWest and 28th in all of NCAA Division II.
This is Ware's first career PacWest weekly honor and the second by an Urban Knight this season following junior forward
Helena Orts' Defender of the Week selection on
Dec. 5.
