Frick Takes Second at WWU Invitational

Western Washington Invitational Round 3 Results

BELLINGHAM, WASH. – Junior Oskar Frick stole the show on Tuesday's final round of the Western Washington Invitational, rising six spots to a four-way tie for second place amongst 95 individuals.

The Stockholm, Sweden native followed up his opening two rounds of 71 apiece by shooting a 70 on Tuesday. His two-under-par performance was the second-best score out of all individuals in the third round and included three birdies and an eagle. In fact, Frick's two eagles throughout the tournament were the second most scored by an individual. Frick's overall score of 212 was four strokes under par and just one stroke behind Chis Crisologo from Simon Fraser who captured the top spot. This was also Frick's best performance since winning the Sonoma State Invitational on October 13, 2015 when he finished 10 under par.

"It was great to see Oskar develop and take his game to another level," said head coach Andy Moren. "Even though he struggled with his ball striking, he was in contention and almost won without his best."

Sophomore Lawrence Liang was the second-place finisher for the Urban Knights, tying for 58th overall with a score of 228. Liang improved a stroke over his second round (78), posting a 77 on the final day. Sophomore Jose Lopez Butron was just five strokes behind Liang and tied for 74th in the field. As a team, Academy of Art totaled 907 strokes, placing 15th out of 17 teams.

"The rest of the team is not far off," said Moren. "We need to clean up a few mistakes and work on some simple changes, but we will continue to work hard and get better every day."

With the fall's first tournament under their belts, men's golf will return home to tune up for the  InterWest Wildcat Classic October 3-4.
