Kuisel, Bovee Garner PacWest Weekly Awards

PacWest Baseball Weekly Awards April 18-24

Junior left hander Alexander Kuisel and junior right hander Brett Bovee were recognized with their first-ever Pacific West Conference weekly awards for the week of April 18-24.

Kusiel: Pitcher of the Week
Kuisel tossed his first career complete-game shutout in game two of a four-game series with UH Hilo. The Chula Vista, Calif. native held the Vulcans to two hits over nine innings, notched one walk, and a career-high eight strikeouts. The south paw also had a stretch where he retired 22 out of 23 consecutive batters. Kuisel has now produced a quality start in three out of his previous four outings and has a team-high three complete games this season.

Bovee: Newcomer of the Week
Bovee opened the series against UH Hilo with his second complete-game shutout of the season (also Chico State). The right hander did not surrender a hit for the first 5.2 innings until a bunt single hugged the line just long enough to allow the Vulcans to reach first. All told, the Las Vegas native completed 9.0 innings, on no runs, five hits, two walks, and four strikeouts. Thanks to his efforts on Friday night, Bovee managed to tie the program record with two complete-game shutouts in a single season.
