Academy of Art versus Hawaii Pacific Final Results

SAN DIEGO – The No. 23 Urban Knights and No. 9 Hawaii Pacific Sharks entered Saturday's match with a storied rivalry in their past. The previous two seasons, HPU has been responsible for cutting ART U's championship bid short, defeating the Knights in the first round of the NCAA Division II Tournament in 2014 and 2015. Unfortunately, Academy of Art faced a similar result today, falling 5-2 to the Sharks.

Senior Michelle Dandik Zaale and freshman Paula Alcantara recorded the only ART U victory in doubles, posting an 8-2 score in the third category; as a pair, they are now 4-2 on the season. Freshmen Alma Thell-Lenntorp and Klara Thell-Lenntorp were close to catching HPU's Syna Kayser and Lorena Gheorghe, but fell 8-6.

In singles, Alma Thell-Lenntorp was the only Urban Knight to record a victory, defeating the Sharks' Julia Sauer 6-2, 6-0 in sixth singles. Klara Thell-Lenntorp (5-7, 3-3) and junior Annika Schneider (6-3, 0-6, 0-1) left their matches unfinished however, as their outcomes would not have affected the final score.

Academy of Art will return home and spend the week preparing for a trip to Florida for their toughest portion of the season, facing off with five teams (four of whom are ranked within the top 15 in the country).
