Academy of Art women's tennis (4-2) returned to their winning ways on Wednesday, handing Concordia University Irvine (3-5) a 7-2 loss.
The morning commenced with a competitive doubles competition. Two of ART U's pairings emerged as victors, but the Eagles narrowly grabbed the second doubles match (8-6). Junior
Annika Schneider and freshman
Taisiia Andrieieva came together for the first time since facing
Dixie State and returned to their undefeated ways as a pair, defeating the Eagles 8-2 in first doubles. The duo now owns a team-best 4-0 record in such matches. Freshmen
Alma Thell-Lenntorp and
Klara Thell-Lenntorp came together for the sixth time as partners and posted an 8-4 victory to improve to 5-1 on the season as a team.
After a quick intercession, the two teams were back at it in the singles portion of the contest where the Urban Knights would come away 5-1 overall. Schneider, the Thell-Lenntorp twins, freshman
Paula Alcantara, and senior
Michelle Dandik Zaale all came away victorious. Schneider's match entered a tiebreaker after two sets, but she was able to nab the win after rallying from an 0-4 deficit in the first set.
The Heidelberg, Germany native reached match point in the second, but Concordia's Samantha Schuster went on a late run to force a tiebreaker. Nonetheless, the junior prevailed 10-3.
ART U now heads on their first road trip of the season to take on No. 31 Point Loma and No. 9 Hawaii Pacific on Friday and Saturday respectively.
