Match ResultsMiami Shores, Fla. -- Up against its highest ranked opponent of the season thus far on Tuesday, Academy of Art University women's tennis hung tough, but ended up falling to No. 4 Barry 5-1 out at the Buccaneers' Tennis Center.
In doubles, freshman
Alma Thell-Lenntorp and
Klara Thell-Lenntorp highlighted the day by defeating the No. 20 pair in the country, Ana Pain and Sonja Larsen, 8-5. In the number one position, Emma Onila and Zuza Maciejewska topped
Annika Schneider and
Taisiia Andrieieva 8-0, but it was a dogfight at three. Judith Bohnenkamp and Barbora Kijasova only barely escaped
Paula Alcantara and
Michelle Dandik Zaale 9-7 to give Barry a 2-1 advantage heading into singles.
Out of the break, Barry sent its three top 12-ranked singles athletes into the mix. No. 11 Larsen and No. 12 Onila both won and their matches against Alcantara and Dandik Zaale respectively, Maciejewska added a win in the second position, and No. 5 Pain was one of three matches left unfinished. Both Schneider and
Klara Thell-Lenntorp held second-set leads in their singles contests, but the match was halted with the Buccaneers' fifth individual win.
The Knights are now 5-5 on the year while Barry remains undefeated at 8-0.
Academy of Art will now have a day off before facing off against No. 5 Lynn in Boca Raton, Fla. on Mar. 17 at 3 p.m. ET (noon PT).
