Box ScoreSAN FRANCISCO – After a week drenched in rain, the weather held up just in time for No. 23 Academy of Art women's tennis (1-0) to defeat the on the Division I Portland State Vikings (0-3) 6-1 on Sunday in their season opener.

ART U was also dominant in singles only dropping one match. One of the highlights of the singles portion of the afternoon was when Dandik Zaale defeated Portland's Tracy Dong 4-6, 7-5, 11-9. After losing the first set and trailing 5-2 in the second, Dandik Zaale managed to win five straight games to force it into a tiebreaker. The senior led early, only to see Dong tie the score at nine. However, Quebec native won the next two points to win the match.
A similar match took place between Andrieieva and the Vikings' Dane Vorster. The final score was 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 10-8. The freshman also dropped her first set, but rallied to win the second and consequent tiebreaker to close out festivities at the San Francisco Tennis Club.
Academy of Art sees its first conference action next match when the Dominican Penguins come to town on February 13 at noon.
