Match Results

LAIE, Hawaii —
The Academy of Art University women's tennis team's road trip to Hawaii can only get easier from here, as it began the journey Wednesday on the home courts of the No. 4 team in the country in BYU-Hawaii with the Seasiders coming away with an 8-1 victory.

It was the Urban Knights' (4-2) first loss this season against a top-30 ranked NCAA Division II team and their first true road loss. The Knights' lone victory came at No. 3 doubles, where freshman Dorota Markowska and sophomore Annika Schneider pulled away for an 8-5 win over BYUH's Jade Griffin and JoJo Wu. Griffin won two straight games after trailing 6-3 to make it close at 6-5, but Markowska and Schneider closed it out with consecutive game wins of their own.

The Seasiders (17-1) swept the singles competition, with straight set victories in all but the No. 4 singles. Senior Jenny Johansson pushed her opponent Kanela Adamson to a 10-point tiebreaker, eventually falling 5-7, 6-3, 6-7 (10). Johansson was one of only two Urban Knights who entered the day still undefeated in both singles and doubles this spring. Johansson fell in both Wednesday, moving to 5-1 in singles and 6-1 in doubles. Schneider was the other undefeated Knight but also fell in singles, moving to 2-1 in singles. Her doubles record stayed unblemished with the win alongside Markowska, improving to 4-0.

Academy of Art continues its road trip on The Islands Thursday at Chaminade beginning at 10 a.m. HST.
